1. What is Bitter Candy Tuft?

Bitter Candy Tuft( Iberis amara) its common  name is called Bitter Candy Tuft, is a species of plant of flowers belonging to the family of the Brassicaceae. A small European herbaceous cruciferous plant. It is well known as an ornamental plant which is wide-spread in Europe and grows preferably in grain fields, in warm, sunny and dry, mainly loamy and loessial soil which is high in calcium.


2. What are the clinical implication of Bitter Candy Tuft?

The fresh plant extract of Iberis amara exhibited a tonicising effect on the smooth muscles of the stomach and small intestine.

Moreover, it can accelerate gastro-intestinal peristalsis.


Traditionally, the plant has been used in treatment of rheumatism, gout, and other diseases. In large doses it is said to produce giddiness, nausea, and diarrhea, and to be useful in cardiac hypertrophy, asthma, and bronchitis.
